SEBASTIAN BACH: SKID ROW Members Refused To Allow 'I Remember You' To Be Used In 'Rock Of Ages'
June 18, 2012Cristina Massei of Sonic Shocks conducted an interview with former SKID ROW singer Sebastian Bach after his June 14 concert at O2 Academy Islington in London, England. You can now watch the chat below.
On whether he had ever considered being a part of a musical like "Rock Of Ages" after previously doing both "Jekyll & Hide" and "Jesus Christ Superstar":
"I was the first person they asked to do Stacee Jaxx [Tom Cruise's character in the 'Rock Of Ages' movie] on Broadway. I was the very first person they asked. They wanted me to do that for years. They wanted me to do it when it was off Broadway. And they wanted me to do it when they wanted to move on Broadway. But I don't know if I want to sing other people's music every night when I have my own music. When I did 'Jekyll & Hide', that was a story. 'Jesus Christ Superstar' was a story. That's a whole different thing; that's like legitimate theater. 'Rock Of Ages' is, like… I just don't know if I could get ready every night to sing BON JOVI and POISON. I don't know if I would be in a great mood doing that when I have my own music."
On why SKID ROW's music isn't included in "Rock Of Ages":
"The fact is Snake [Dave Sabo, SKID ROW guitarist] and Rachel [Bolan, SKID ROW bassist], who have co-writing credits for 'I Remember You', refused to allow it to be in the movie. [The producers of 'Rock Of Ages'] wanted 'I Remember You' [to be] in the play and the movie, but Snake and Rachel don't like money. [Laughs] They have an aversion to cash. They'd rather not have cash. I don't know why — you can interview them about that — but that is the truth of the matter. The play wanted the [song] and they didn't want it in the movie — because money is bad."
On rumors that SKID ROW's classic lineup was offered a chance to reunite for an appearance at a major U.K. festival this summer:
"The festival Sonisphere had made an offer to us to reunite, and I said yes, I would do it, but one of the guys in the band didn't wanna do it. That was the festival that didn't happen. But they even printed up a poster with the [SKID ROW] logo [on it]. That was gonna happen, but one of the guys didn't wanna do it, so it didn't happen. It's very easy for me to go sing these songs. If they wanna do it, I'll do it."
